The Block 21 project is a mixed-use high rise tower located Denny Triangle, the neighborhood south of the now bustling South Lake Union in Seattle, WA. The project is an Office development project that includes two office buildings at 24- and 8-stories tall—both part of Amazon’s expanding headquarters with a below-grade parking garage. The two office towers are to be connected by a bridge and sit atop street-level retail space and four levels of underground parking. The Block 21 project will add 853,049 square feet of office space to the 8 million already occupied by Amazon in the city. According to the project sustainability goals, Block 21 is targeting the LEED Gold-level certification as well as projecting a 17% increase in efficiency over conventional energy plants. And it also contemplates public benefits from its design. On the 8th ave Hillclimb, for instance, there are 12,000 sq. ft. of publicly accessible open space including an accessible route from 8th & Bell to mid-block plaza, 2854 sq. ft. of planting including trees and seating elements. On 7th Ave Row there are 4,700 sq. ft. of expanded pedestrian streetscape including 1,366 sq. ft. of planting, an elevated cycle track running the length of the block, street trees, a bus stop and enhanced curb bulbs at each corner. The public benefits for 8th Avenue, Blanchard Street, and Bell Street also contemplate planting, seating elements, open spaces, and even a bike lane.
Our studio provided support in the Schematic Design (Revit Modeling only), Design Development and Construction Document stages of work with the production of Revit Version 2014 Models and document extraction of 2D Architecture Design Development and Construction Drawings for the Amazon Block 21 project. Our team produced the drawings based on the different project stage of work, models or plans and drawings received from the client to set up the base to make progress. We supported the client with the production of the documentation for the architectural drawings, including annotating, dimensions, tagging, sheet view setups, and schedule generation among others. For coordination purposes, we placed onsite staff at the client's office in Seattle, WA as the agreed schedule.
