The principal airport serving the capital of South Australia is Adelaide Airport, which is also the fifth busiest terminal in Australia. It is located in the charming city of Adelaide. The airport is conveniently situated just 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) west of the city center, next to West Beach. A long-term lease from the Commonwealth Government has allowed Adelaide Airport Limited to run it since 1998, assuring effective administration and services. The airport, which opened its doors in 1955, experienced a substantial expansion in 2005 with the addition of a cutting-edge dual international/domestic terminal. This amazing facility has received a great deal of attention and praise, and in 2006 it was named the second-best international airport in the world (5–15 million passengers).
