Our collaboration with Cathexes in a set of residential/educational buildings in Pahokee, FL. A simple design with a complex goal: to minimize construction waste by modular design and optimization.
Don (Clark) is a happy person: every time you see him, he will share a big smile and make you feel better about your day regardless of what's going on. His passion for architecture does not take long to surface: if this is the Matrix, his green letters speak the universal language of architecture. The very name of the firm says it all: Cathexes is an investment of mental or emotional energy in a person, object, or idea.
How did you get started?
"After serious debates about how to make this collaboration work, the opportunity showed up: a set of residential/educational buildings in Pahokee, FL. A simple design with a complex goal: to minimize construction waste by modular design and optimization."
"That's when I met Phil (Davis): a kind, thankful and thoughtful leader. We quickly understood the project goal and devised a strategy to maximize the impact of BIM technology in this process: ideas were sketched by hand, and we would model the options, evaluate alternatives and discuss best solutions for each problem."
First project: what was the approach?
"When we approached our strategic collaboration, his main concern was to focus on his craft and clients. But at the same time, counting on a solid technical team that can pick up his thoughts and turn them into a reliable BIM model and consistent working drawings to hit the job site with confidence. Using BIM360 to share information in the cloud, the whole team can be updated in real-time, and the coordination routines can be run regularly to keep all consultants on the same page."
What was key in making this work?
"Communication has always been (and will always be!) the key to successful collaboration. So when the job started, we were looped in immediately in the weekly coordination meetings and taken as part of the team right off the gate."
"Being on the same page was paramount to providing a responsive, agile, and nimble service. And knowing that Phil trusted us as part of the team was energizing and made everyone walk the extra mile at every step of the project."
In our client's words
We at Corbis like to say, "we love to do business with people we would have a glass of wine with." So I constantly strived to provide the CATHEXES team with a flexible response and always focused on "we've got your back" so they could focus on the client, the programmatic compliance, and coordinating all stakeholders.
In the words of CATHEXES founding principal, Don Clark: "We have been interfacing with Martin and his team for some time and are excited to now be working with Corbis. We have found them very responsive and willing to work with all of our flaws. As we learn each other's ways, we expect the relationship to get stronger and even more effective."
