The Project: Midland Health Campus

Project Description

The Midland Health Campus is the new general hospital to be developed for the State as part of the Midland Health Campus in Perth, WA. It is meant for people living in Perth’s eastern suburbs and the first new hospital providing care for public patients in this region for more than 50 years. The Midland Health Campus will offer a comprehensive range of general hospital services to the local community and will have over 300 beds – a 50 percent increase compared with Swan District Hospital. Additionally, it offers a comprehensive range of clinical services including emergency and critical care, general surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, cancer care, and an inpatient mental health center. In addition, the private operator will provide some private patient beds, which will benefit the community. The design is to consider an expansion to 450 beds by 2020. The overall project has a total floor area of 42,500m2. The building is 5 stories and an in-situ concrete frame is currently being developed. Column grids are typically 10m x 7.5m and banded slab floor systems are currently being developed. Lateral stability is provided by in-situ reinforced concrete core and shear walls and both traditional and post-tensioned systems are being considered.
