This project located in one of Argentina’s western provinces is just one of the experiences in the penitentiary sector in more than 17 years in the AEC industry. The Centro Federal Penitenciario de Cuyo (Cuyo’s Federal Penitentiary Center) is a 48,540 m² project with three different levels destined to house inmates. The project is designed in accordance with the master plan and aims to restrict the punitive measurements over the population as the inmate serves its time, reducing the differences between the life in prison and the life on the streets. This Center counts with a total capacity of 536 functional spaces. Those are made up by 392 male interns, 112 female interns and a space called “Instituto Abierto” (Open Institute) for 32 interns. It has a 26.000 m2 of covered area and approximately 9.000 m2 of semi-covered areas. The Center is raised in a parcel comprised of 50 hectares. It is 6 km away from the city of Lujan de Cuyo and 35 km away from Mendoza’s capital city in Argentina.
CorbisStudio scope included the complete BIM modeling of the architectural components and the modular cell. Working together with the GC we helped anticipate coordination problems and improve the building process with the digital prototype of the different cell configurations. We also developed consultants models to perform clash detection and coordination. Basic take-offs were taken from the BIM models for early cost-projection.
