Project Description

Positioned at the corner of Market and 8th Street on the edge of the SoMa and the Civic Center neighborhoods, Whole Foods will service the thousands of current Trinity Place residents, local workers, theater-goers, and many others living and working in the vibrant community. Bordering the Civic Center BART and MUNI Stations and nearby bus stops, transportation to and from the location will be no issue. Shoppers can enter the store via Market Street directly across from the Orpheum Theatre and quickly pick up food or drinks. Those looking to drive to Trinity Place for their shopping needs will be pleased to hear that Whole Foods will include plentiful underground garage parking available to shoppers. For those who prefer to stay on foot, Whole Foods boasts a grand entryway on Market Street that leads you into a beautiful lobby and down an escalator into the store. Once customers finish shopping within this 55,000 square foot space, they will be able to exit to a lovely courtyard set with tables and chairs perfect for enjoying your food, drink, and additional retail. Located directly below the 1177 Market Apartments, residents of this brand-new building will have controlled access straight from their homes into the lobby of Whole Foods. As of September 2021, this project is under construction, estimated to be opened in 2022. The project developer is Amazon, and the general contractor is Swinerton. This commercial construction company provides services in the United States for commercial office, retail, multi-family residential, hospitality, healthcare, education, energy, and entertainment.

Scope of work

Corbis collaborated with Field Paoli Architects to provide BIM Management and Architectural Production Delivery to produce design development drawings, including AutoCAD conversion and construction documents. Our work was based on the architectural design provided by the team at Field Paoli Architects, and our goal was to improve the construction process for Amazon, Whole Foods’ developer. Once the consultants had completed the schematic design, we worked on our BIM strategy for Production to create and manage accurate BIM models and maximize the impact on technology for the project’s lifecycle. Our scope included ensuring and enforcing the BIM strategy, complying with standards, and leading the communications iteration to be on the same page during the whole project. A solid strategy becomes hard to change and avoids significant complications as the project moves to the Design Development and Construction Drawings stages.
